A word of encouragement to our seedlings

January 9, 2023 – This day marks the beginning of many 8th grade learners’ High School career at The Glen High School. Welcome to our 8th graders and good luck for the year ahead.

The school day already started at 7:30 on the morning of the 9th of January. Although I am sure that our learners woke up early to get ready in anticipation for what the day may hold. The learners wore a jumble of emotions on their faces as they entered the school grounds with their parents. It was difficult to distinguish whose nerves were more frayed, the learners or the parents.

Starting high school can be scary. Students arrive with a mix of emotions. Most, however, are nervous. Maybe because first impressions matter. The reasons vary from child to child, but kids tend to feel anxious about starting school. This is not necessarily a bad thing; some anxiety is normal, even healthy. Stay positive, and remember that your new classmates feel nervous, too.

As part of the grade 8 orientation program, learners will be divided between 4 clans that form part of the school’s Scottish heritage. These clans include Clan Mc Donald, Clan Steward, Clan Cambel and Clan Gordon – read more about our heritage on the Our School page. Before you know it, you are part of your clan and so much a part of the school that it feels like your second home.

Welcome to The Glen family.
