Grade 8 orientation camp: the best way to start a High School career
At TGHS we pride ourselves in providing quality education to develop great future leaders. We place importance on values such as; discipline, support, kindness, resilience, aspiration, determination, tolerance, respect and team spirit and we are proud we could resume with our custom on creating an opportunity to develop and teach these values to our grade 8 group of 2023. This was possible as Covid-19 restrictions, which were implemented in the past three years, have been lifted.
The best way to start a high school career has to be receiving the first vital lessons from the space encouraging of a child to be themselves, even when life’s transitions, requiring adaptability, is taking place; a transition from primary school to high school. The 2023 grade 8 camp took place at Meulstroom Lodge. Learners were provided with time to be one with themself around nature which taught them the importance of
reflecting, identifying and acknowledging one’s independent thoughts and the importance of having gratitude for the little to big gifts in life.
“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself”
It was heart-warming to witness learners passionately express themselves in each of the courses they were presented with. From the obstacle courses requiring time management and holding hands in their different teams to be able to reach collective success; to hosting their concert titled “the cat walk” where the groups had to generate ideas to create pieces of fashion. They then had to proudly present their creations in front of the audience made of facilitators, peers and teachers. The learners did exceptionally well in learning, adapting and applying the important values. We are confident that this will be a continuous practice as they begin and continue with their high school career at TGHS as this is the culture continuously enforced and taught at our institution.
