Swimming

We have just concluded the Swimming season on Thursday 16 February 2023.  We took part in the combined E/D league gala at Hillcrest Swimming Pool.  10 school from two leagues competed in a very tough Gala.  We had a decent number of 45 swimmers this year which allowed us to compete in most of the races.  We finished 8th out of the 10 teams.

We had 4 friendly galas before the Bond and we did fairly well simply because we had the numbers to fill most of our races.  Participation was boosted by the entertaining Inter-Clan Gala we hosted in the beginning of the year. The Interclan gala was filled with participants and we had to have multiple heats.  Clan Gordon were the eventual over all winners of the Gala with the learners below winning the individual awards:

  • Ashlyn Hennings – Junior Victrix Ludorum
  • Nkosentle Madida – Junior Victor Ludorum
  • Andrea Bezuidenhout – Senior Victrix Ludorum
  • Emmanuel Tegbo – Senior Victor Ludorum

I believe swimming will get stronger and more popular amongst our learners, especially the juniors.  The introduction of swim classes for grade 8 learners can only produce a bigger and better swimming program for our school.

Athletics

Interclan Athletics opened the season on the 28th of January.  Similar to the swimming gala, the clans were in high spirit and high level of competition.  We had cheerleaders and they were very active in lifting the spirit of the athletes.  Clan Gordon showed early dominance by winning the title.

The following were the individual awards:

  • Phenyo Mphela – Junior Victor Ludorum
  • Nompumelelo Mahlangu – Junior Victrix Ludorum
  • Grace Bonga – Senior Victrix Ludorum
  • Tshegofatso Malapane – Senior Victor Ludorum

On the 4th of February 2023, we hosted our Annual Friendly Athletics Meeting. We hosted 3 schools in Lyttelton Manor High School, Willowmore High School and Boksburg High School. Its was great competition for us to test our athletes. We finished second to Lyttelton Manor High School, Boksburg High School was 3rd and Willowmore High School finished 4th.

10 Athletes were selected to represent us at the TUKS/ Prestige College top 10 Athletics Championships at The University of Pretoria on the 8th of February. It was tough competition for our top athletes, where we tried to prepare them for District Championships that took place on 15 February 2023.

2 athletes from our school have qualified to participate in the Gauteng Championships. They will take place at Ruimsig in the beginning of March.  The two athletes are:

  • Rianey Graaf – Long jump under 15 girls
  • Olebogeng Molaane – High Jump under 19 girls

On Friday 24 February 2023, we are hosting the F-Bond, the preparations are going well and if the weather permits, we will try and win this bond as came in a close 3rd behind Lyttelton Manor High School and Amberfield College last year.  Lyttelton Manor has been promoted to the E-Bond, leaving us with Amberfied College that we lost to by 20 points to last year.

General

Winter sports will begin after our F-Bond Athletics.  We will have Inter-clan championships and trials in the beginning of March as matches will begin in the 2nd term.
