GRADE 8 APPLICATION PROCESS 2024
This process is run entirely by the Department of Education and parents are required to apply online via this link:
The Online Admissions Application for Grade 8 will OPEN at 08:00 on Thursday, 15 June 2023 and CLOSE at 00:00 on Friday, 14 July 2023.

Please scan the following documents individually and save them to your computer so
that they are ready to UPLOAD onto the GDE online system when it opens. NO E-MAILING OF DOCUMENTS ALLOWED.
1. Latest school report
2. SA Unabridged birth certificate of learner OR Passport of learner (if foreign
nationals)
3. Both the Mother’s and Father’s or Guardian’s IDs on one page OR Passport (if
foreign nationals)
4. Latest water and electricity account or full lease agreement (NO RATES
ACCOUNTS, STORE ACCOUNTS OR BANK STATEMENTS ARE ACCEPTED)
5. Proof of employment if applying based on your work address
The GDE uses the following criteria when placing students at schools:
List 1 – Living within the school’s feeder zone
List 2 – Siblings
List 3 – Working within the school’s feeder zone
List 4 – Living within 30km from school
List 5 – Living outside 30km from school
PLEASE NOTE:
The outcome of the GDE application is issued by the Department of Education. The outcome can only be retrieved on the GDE online system where you applied, and not by the school.
