Prefect camp 2023

“Talent win games but teamwork and intelligence win championships”

A crucial lesson learnt by the prefect group of 2023. Prefects were presented with a variety of activities including nerve wracking, yet exciting obstacle courses which the success of each was dependent on the collaboration of each member. One of the obstacle courses being the foot loose. This course heavily relied on the right strategy, communication and trust to enable successful completion of their journey. The course developed each team member’s confidence, as every move and step on the log relied on communication of the member making a move.

What does leadership mean for the institution?

The role of the prefects as leaders of TGHS is to influence peers’ behaviour and provide guidance, while acting as a link between learners and educators. With great leadership comes maximum participation in diverse sporting activities, education and cultural activities.

Teachers developed an overall perspective at the camp which informs an idea that paying attention to these team players’ personalities, how they respond to pressure, to finding solutions independently, and as a collective plays a vital role in understanding the team better. This ensures great facilitation, while cultivating their leadership and management qualities post the camp, which is beneficial for them to be able to balance diverse learner tasks.

The anticipation from the prefect group of 2023

The school places confidence on the current position of the 2023 prefect group with acquired knowledge and guidance to run and lead the 2023 grade 8 orientation week, in addition to their proposed cultural activities for the coming academic year.
